ADC Faction Asks Traditional Rulers To Stay Off Politics

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a coordinated effort by certain traditional rulers and political figures to pressure its Interim National Chairman, Alhaji Nafiu Bala Gombe, into relinquishing leadership of the party.

In a statement issued by Dr. Aminu Sani Alhassan, Special Assistant (Public Affairs) to the Interim Chairman, the party decried alleged lobbying, phone calls, and covert visits aimed at undermining Bala’s position, which it says is backed by the party’s constitution and majority support among members.

He described the alleged involvement of traditional rulers as a dangerous and unconstitutional intrusion into partisan politics, calling it “a disgraceful betrayal of the neutrality expected of traditional institutions. “According to the ADC, some traditional leaders have become proxies for political interests seeking to hijack the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alhassan warned that individuals disguising as peacemakers while promoting the interests of the alleged coalition would be publicly exposed. The party reaffirmed its support for Bala, saying he remains “unshaken” and is determined to lead the party according to its constitutional mandate.
